This section looks at the history of some of the famous corsetry brands. It has an Australian bias, as that is where I live, and I will concentrate on those brands which had made a particular contribution to the industry.

I am in a quandary about Hickory. In Australia it was regarded as an Australian company, but there is no Hickory advertising in my prewar magazines, whereas I have American ads dating back to 1936. I have no Australian advertisements before 1969, and I have been unable to find any information on the history of the Hickory company. So, unless I can find evidence to the contrary, I am assuming that the brand originated in the States, and that the Hickory company here licensed the American designs.
